Our Pet Surgery and Recovery Process

The team at Cornerstone Veterinary Hospital of Saratoga Springs takes your pet’s safety and well-being very seriously. We take every precaution to ensure your pet is safe and comfortable before, during and after their surgery by abiding by these guidelines:

We recommend fasting your pet for 8-12 hours prior to their surgery. We also perform a pre-surgical comprehensive physical exam, ECG, and conduct blood work to assess your pet’s health and check for any underlying issues.

We provide pain medication before your pet’s surgery to address pain ahead of time. When your pet is ready for surgery, we place an IV catheter to deliver fluids, while a licensed veterinary technician closely monitors their vitals, such as blood pressure and heart rate. We can also administer any necessary medications during the procedure.

After your pet’s surgery, they will rest in our recovery area with a warm blanket to help maintain their body temperature. A licensed veterinary technician will monitor their progress to ensure a smooth and comfortable awakening. A team member will reach out to coordinate a discharge time and provide detailed at-home care instructions. They will also address any questions you may have about the surgery or recovery process. If any additional questions arise once your pet is home, feel free to call us at (518) 691-3300, and our team will be glad to help you.
